READING
January book reports will be due Thursday, Jan. 31st. We continue to work in our ISAT book this week. We will be focusing on main characters and supporting characters. Authors and illustrators reveal characters through their thoughts, words, and actions. The plot of a story can center around contrasts between the actions, motives, and appearances of characters.

LANGUAGE ARTS
We will begin to focus on persuasive writing. A good persuasive argument is supported by reasons. The reasons should offer solid evidence to support the writer's opinion.

SOCIAL STUDIES
Chapter 9 is called Winning the Revolution. The American colonies declared independence from Britain in July 1776. Thomas Paine and Richard Henry Lee persuaded Americans to declare independence from Britain. Thomas Jefferson wrote the official declaration. Students will learn that the Declaration of Independence stated the rights of the American colonists and their reasons for declaring independence.

SCIENCE
We will have our first Weather Test on Activities 1-10 on Friday, February 1st. This week students will demonstrate that when liquid water evaporates it goes into the air as water vapor. Students will be working in groups of three to make a hypothesis on evaporation. We also will understand that the amount of water vapor in the air is known as humidity.
