READING

We begin our study on main idea and details. Students will be reading short passages and learn how to determine the main idea of the paragraph by using supporting details. This will help students to be able to write a good paragraph.

LANGUAGE ARTS
This week we are identifying the simple predicate of a sentence. Next we will learn that in an
imperative sentence, you is always the subject. Ask your child to identify the different conjunctions in a sentence. Unit 1 test on The Sentence will be Tuesday, Sept. 25th.

SOCIAL STUDIES
Chapter 4 test on Spain Builds an Empire will be Wednesday, Sept. 19th. On Thursday we will
be ready to begin Chapter 5 The Struggle to Found Colonies. England founded Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement to North America, in 1607.

SCIENCE
Students will begin to learn the parts of the skeletal system. Did you know that your body is born with about 270 bones. As you grow many bones fuse together and eventually you have
only 206 bones.

MATH (Mrs. Napolitano's Class Only)
Chapter 1 test on Place Value will be Wednesday, Sept. 19th. We will then be ready to begin
Chapter 2 on Addition and Subtraction of Whole Numbers and Decimals.
